The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 36 year-old Michael Newman was driving in Jamestown around midnight and allegedly made several traffic violations. Newman failed to stop for police and allegedly fled the area, leaving the city and heading west toward the town of Ellicott. His vehicle eventually crashed on West Duquesne Street, between Alleghany and Dunham avenues.
Newman was taken into custody and charged with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to comply with police, reckless driving, and several other violations. He was arraigned and sent to the county jail without bail.
Joining sheriff’s deputies in the pursuit were officers from the State Police, Ellicott Police Department and Lakewood-Busti Police Department.
