JAMESTOWN – A 50 year-old Jamestown man is in police custody this morning following his alleged involvement in a home burglary and subsequent high speed chase into downtown Jamestown.
According to a report in today’s Jamestown Post-Journal, officers were called to a residence in Ellicott at about 4:10 p.m. regarding a burglary in progress. When discovered by the homeowner, the man fled the scene in a black SUV. Members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff department offered assistance and located the suspect’s vehicle, which then resulted in a high-speed chase into the city and down South Main St. and eventually onto Fourth St. The vehicle then hit a support pillar near the Ramada Inn Hotel. Police then surrounded the vehicle to prevent it from leaving the scene, and the suspect then tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended after an officer used a taser.
The suspect was identified as 50 year-old Tommy Williams of Jamestown, who faces several charges, including unlawful fleeing a police officer, speeding, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and aggravated unlicensed operation. The town of Ellicott is also expected to file charges against Williams. He was taken to WCA Hospital for treatment of his injuries and will be arraigned in Jamestown City Court later today.
