JAMESTOWN – It’s national library week across the country and the James Prendergast Library in Jamestown is celebrating the occasion with several events and activities.
First observed in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored annually by the American Library Association. This year the theme is “Lives Change @ your library.”
Events planned for the week including the Wii gaming system with one new game available for use will be set up from 4 to 5 p.m. today. Other events for children and families during the week include Puzzle and Poetry Pals, two family story times, Lego and Game Club, family games, and two family activity sessions. Saturday, April 19, is also the last day of the Big Read Family Literacy Challenge.
Teens will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, to plan their teen poetry slam. Volunteer Income Tax Preparation is available from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15. Other activities for adults are Download the Classics from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, and 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, and Yarn Club at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Library visitors of all ages are also invited to view the annual art gallery exhibit by the Chautauqua County Art Teachers through April 25.
All events during National Library Week are free and open to the public, although an appointment is required for tax preparation. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, visit www.prendergastlibrary.org.
