JAMESTOWN – A busy intersection of Downtown Jamestown had to be closed to traffic on Saturday due to a water main break.
The break took place at the intersection of North Main and Third streets and was reported by the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities around 8 a.m. Saturday. Water could be seen gushing from a manhole cover, creating so much force that it eventually caused a part of the roadway to buckle.
Crews were force to dig up the road to repair the water line. The area was closed to traffic for much of the morning and afternoon.
Residents and business were forced to deal with roily and discolored water for much of the day and even into the evening following the break.
The cause of the water main break was not immediately given, although the cold temperatures may have played a role.
