County Board of Elections Announces Training Sessions for November Poll Workers

August 1, 2018 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Board of Elections Commissioners Norman Green and Brian Abram announced an open call training for any county Democrats or Republicans interested in becoming Election Day poll workers on Tuesday Nov. 6.

According to Green and Abram, anyone who comes to the open training for poll workers, passes a test on the material presented and is available to work at their home poll site or elsewhere, will be assigned to work. The elections office will be assigning workers for 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. work slots or for shorter part day shifts. Pursuant to state election law, the poll workers must be evenly representing the two major parties as a check and balance to ensure fair bi-partisan elections.

No Pre-Registration needed for Election Day workers and citizens are invited to show up at any one of the following training sessions being offered at:

Carlson Community Center, 50 W. Lake Road, Mayville

  • Wed. Aug.  8th (2 – 5 p.m. or 6 – 9 p.m.)

JCC North County Training Center, 10807 Bennett Rd. Dunkirk

  • Wed.  Aug.t 15th (1 – 4 p.m. or 6 – 9 p.m.)
  • Thur. Aug.  16th (1 – 4 p.m. or 6 – 9 p.m.)
  • Fri. Aug.  17th (9 a.m. – Noon)
  • Sat. Aug.  18th (9 am – Noon)

JCC South County, Carnahan Theatre, 525 Falconer St. Jamestown

  • Wed. Aug. 22nd (1 – 4 p.m. or 6 – 9 p.m.)
  • Thur. Aug.  23rd (1 – 4 p.m. or 6 – 9 p.m.)
  • Fri. Aug.  24th (9 a.m. – Noon)
  • Sat. Aug.  25th (9 am – Noon)

Poll workers are paid $10.40 per hour and $25 will be paid to anyone who passes the training test and remains available to work Election Day.  Pursuant to federal law, no taxes are deducted for these one-day county employees, but workers should consult with their tax advisor on how to handle the payments.

“We look forward to making new and veteran workers comfortable as we train our Election Inspectors to handle our voting customers on Election Day,” said election trainer Tony Popierlarz.  “The end result for us is for county citizens to have a pleasant voting experience; that all starts with our Election Inspectors and we invite all county Democrats or Republicans to be a paid Election Day worker.”
