County Officials Unveil New Economic Development Plan to Improve Inter-Agency Cooperation

March 29, 2019 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County officials unveiled the county’s new Economic Development Organizational Plan last night in Mayville.

The event was hosted by County Executive George Borrello and deputy executive for economic development Mark Geise and also featured representatives from the consulting firm Camoin Associates, which helped to draft the plan.

According to the Post-Journal, the report concluded that all economic development agencies and departments in the county need to do a better job of sharing data and resources, communicating more, and to get past the idea of working alone and instead focus more on coordinating with others. If that were to take place, the consultant stated that the county would be more successful in landing large economic development projects that would yield a better benefit for the region.

As part of the study, Camoin officials held interviews with 25 community stakeholders and held a round table meeting where 30 participating organizations.

The plan calls for the establishment of a new entity or alliance board to include representation from different communities. That board would then operate under the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency’s Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corp.

The full plan can be found at the IDA’s website.
