October 12, 2015 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Chautauqua County SheriffCHAUTAUQUA – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office was busy over the weekend looking for a missing 19 year-old in the area of the Chautauqua Gorge.

According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Beaujean Rd. in the Town of Chautauqua at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday to search for 19 year-old Nathan Nowicki of Falconer. Nowicki had been with a group of friends when at some point he walked away from them an into a wooded area. The group was unable to find him and after a short time of searching, they called the Sheriff’s office to report him missing.

Deputies were sent to the area and were eventually able to find the GPS coordinates from Nowicki’s cell phone to pinpoint an area to search. With the help of K-9 Drago, searchers were able to find Nowicki’s backpack, which also contained his phone. The search team then went into the Gorge and found Nowicki’s foot prints and eventually were able to locate him at about 8:45 a.m. Nowicki was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of hypothermia and other minor injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by NYS Forest Ranger, Mayville Fire Dept., Westfield Fire Dept., Sherman Fire Dept., Chautauqua Area Search Team, and Chautauqua County Emergency Services.

No charges were filed in the incident.
