Flash Flood Warning Remains in Effect Until 1 p.m., Flood Watch in Effect until 8 p.m.

May 21, 2014 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Flood-WatchThe National Weather Service has issued a flash floor warning until 1 p.m. and a flash flood watch will continue until 8 p.m. tonight for Chautauqua County, including here in the Jamestown area.

The warning and watch are the result of a large amount of rain falling during the past 12 hours, which in some areas was reported as high as four inches.  As a result, the Chadakoin River, Cassadaga Creek and Conewango Creek – along with varios streams and creeks – are each looking at a record cresting. There are numerous reports of road closures across Chautauqua County including Route 380 between Kimball Stand and Falconer in the Town of Ellicott, Jones and Gifford Ave. in Jamestown and Route 62 near Frewsburg.  Several roads in the towns of Carroll and Poland are also flooded and closed.

Police warn motorists they should not attempt to cross any flooded roads and instead seek alternate routes.
