House Fire in Busti Claims Life of Two-Year-Old

September 19, 2014 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

BUSTI – Children playing with matches has resulted in the death of a two-year-old Amish boy in the town of Busti.

Chautauqua County Sheriff deputies say area fire crews were called to a fire at the home at 4835 Kortwright Road just after 2 p.m. Thursday and found the home fully involved on arrival. As a result, they were unable to get inside the home to make sure everyone was out.

After bringing the blaze under control, crews found the body of two year old Eli Shetler on the 3rd floor.

Fire officials said that children playing with matches was the cause of the fire. Sheriff deputies say the investigation is continuing but its unlikely any charges will be filed. About a dozen fire companies were called to the scene.
