JAMETSOWN – State State Senator Catharine Young (R,I – Olean) recently awarded Jamestown High School juniors Katie Andalora and Steve Carlson with the NYS Senate’s Youth Leadership Recognition Award. The award recognizes students who exhibit leadership qualities and the determination to make a difference in the future success of businesses and most importantly, their communities.

“This award is given for high academic achievement but also for serving as a leader and role model in their community,” said Senator Young. “It is very inspiring to meet with Katie and Steve and let them know how proud we are of their hard work and continued efforts to make a difference in the lives of those within their communities.”

Steve Carlson is the president of the junior class. He is a member of the JHS’ National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club and the varsity football and basketball teams.  Katie Andalora is the vice president of the junior class. She is a member of JHS’ National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club and the varsity soccer team.

“Steve and Katie were recognized for this award based upon their leadership skills, their character, their academic achievement and their involvement in the life of their school,” said JHS Principal Mike McElrath. “They have had a positive impact on students and staff alike and are excellent representatives of what JHS, and our school community, are all about.”
