Jury Deliberations Expected to Begin Today in Coggins Trial

MAYVILLE – Jury deliberation in the double murder trial of Davide Coggins could begin today in Chautauqua County court.

Coggins is accused of leading three other men to the town of Carroll in April 2013 in order to commit a home invasion and burglary at the residence of Gordon and Joyce Skinner, which prosecutors say led to the couple’s death.

The trial of Coggins has been underway since the first week of October but after several weeks of testimony from dozens of witnesses – including two of the men involved in the crime – the jury is expected to begin deliberating on a verdict.

Coggins faces a count of first degree murder along with several other charges. The three other men involved in the crime – Steven Todd, Ricky Knickerbocker and Joshua McCormick – all reportedly made plea deals with the county district attorney in exchange for testifying against Coggins. However, only Knickerbocker and McCormick testified during the trial with Todd not taking the stand.

If convicted of all charges, Coggins faces 25 years to life in prison.
