JAMESTOWN – Wednesday is the first day of school for many students across Chautauqua County, including those who attend Jamestown Public Schools. City schools will welcome back students for the 2014-15 school year with all schools in Jamestown only having a half-day – with dismissal at 11:30 a.m.

On Tuesday Jamestown School Superintendent Tim Mains told WRFA he is looking forward to meeting with students at every school throughout this week and he’s took time out during a recent interview to remind parents that some schools have made changes to the student drop off areas.

“I want parents to know that there are some adjustments that we’ve made to the traffic flow in some of our  schools so I want parents to be sensitive and pay attention to that,” Mains said. “We have done some significant construction at Ring and at Lincoln, and we are in the process of doing some construction at Bush that wont be finalized until October but that will impact how people access the schools.”

Mains also said that on Tuesday he met with the faculty and staff of the entire school district to go over the recently adopted strategic plan.

“I had the chance to address everyone who works for Jamestown Public Schools,” Mains said. “It included a lot of explanation about the new strategic plan that will drive our work over the next several years. Then they went back to their schools and had additional sessions at their schools focus on the unique preparations they were making for their school years at each elementary school and middle school and at the high school.”

Elementary school start time is 8:20 a.m. The first full day for elementary students will be Thursday with dismissal time at 3:00 p.m.

Middle school start time is 8:30 a.m.  Middle school students will report for a full day of school on Thursday with dismissal time at 3:05 p.m.

Jamestown High School students are report to their homerooms this morning by 8:00 a.m. Students who did not receive a homeroom assignment can look at the homeroom lists posted around JHS on the first day. On Thursday JHS will hold a full day of classes with School being dismissed at 3:00 p.m.

There will also be no Universal Prekindergarden (UPK) classes today. The first day of UPK will instead take place on Thursday.

District bus service will also begin today. All students currently scheduled for bus transportation should have already received a postcard detailing the pick-up and drop-off times and location.

The breakfast program will begin on the first day of school, Wednesday, Sept. 3.  Lunch programs will begin on Thursday, Sept. 4. There will be no charge for breakfast and lunch at all elementary and middle schools.

All after school programming will begin on Thursday.
