MORNING NEWS: Hollywood Legend Offers Support Against Fracking in NY

November 8, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Robert Redford

Hollywood heavyweight Robert Redford is offering his help in the fight against hydraulic fracturing, an issue that continues to be an ongoing controversy in New York state. Hydraulic fracturing, widely known as fracking, is the process of injecting chemically laced fluids into underground rock formations to release natural gas or oil. Redford said he thinks this process will threaten New York state’s drinking water and contaminate the air.

Redford has recorded five radio ads to raise awareness of the dangers of fracking. Also involved with the production of the ads is actress and activist Debra Winger; the director of the movie Gasland, Josh Fox; and the grassroots organization Catskill Citizens for Safe Energy, aimed to prohibit hyrdraulic fracturing in New York state.

WRFA will have more on hydro fracking later today, when we feature our coverage of the Prendergast Library’s critical discussion series on fracking, which took place last Thursday night, Nov. 1 in Jamestown. Tune in tonight at 6 p.m. for Community Matters to hear more about it.
