Jamestown police are reporting Tuesday afternoon that the incident involving a female jogger being robbed did not take place. Investigators say the story was concocted by the reported jogger and she was not harmed nor was she robbed. They add she is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and the investigation is now closed.

JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Police are asking for the public’s help in an investigation involving the armed robbery of a female jogger that took place early Tuesday morning on the Jamestown Riverwalk.

According to a media release, an unknown white male reportedly attacked the jogger as she jogged along the Riverwalk behind Chautauqua Brick on W. Harrison St. Police say the victim was attacked from behind and was struck in the head with a rock as she ran along the pathway. She was then robbed of her iPod and her engagement ring after being threatened with a knife. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as being a white male in his 40s, with a stocky building and standing 5’10” to 5’11” tall. He also reportedly has a white beard and was wearing jeans and a dark colored sweatshirt.

Anyone with information into the incident is asked to call the Jamestown Police Department at (716) 483-7531 or they can leave an anonymous tip at 483-Tips (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.
