Wednesday Morning Fire Leads to Death of City Resident

February 13, 2014 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

JAMESTOWN – Fire investigators say an unattended cooking fire in a kitchen is what caused a fire Wednesday morning that led to the death of a 25 year-old city woman.

According to a media release from the Jamestown Police Department, city fire crews arrived at the apartment house at 105 Stowe St. at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. The victim, identified as 25 year-old Toni M. Brosius, was found in the first floor apartment, where the fire reportedly started. According to a published report, responders were able to remove her from the building, but were not able to revive her. A statement Thursday morning from police say that Brosius died as a result of smoke inhalation.

Two other residents were inside the apartment at the time, but were able to make it out of the building safely and no other injuries were reported. The fire was mostly isolated to the first floor and crews were able to put the fire out with an extinguisher.
