PORTLAND – An accident involving an SUV being struck by a train in the north county has claimed the life of a Portland woman.
Several news outlets are reporting this morning that 68 year-old Phyllis Poloncarz was the only person in a vehicle that was hit by a train late Tuesday afternoon in the town of Portland. State Police says the accident took place near Onthank Road. Authorities say the train dragged the SUV for about a mile and a half down the tracks before it could come to a complete stop.
Not many other details are known at this point and the accident remains under investigation.
