JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has approved the budgets for two of its five utility divisions.
The BPU has decided not to raise rates on waste water, marking the seventh consecutive year without a rate hike for that service. The 2016 waste-water division budget calls for operating expenses of $4.67 Million, up nearly $92,000 from the current year. Increases are to the collection system at $12,000, the Wastewater Treatment Plant at $68,000 and health insurance by $12,000.
The 2016 capital budget for waste water stands at $1.32 million. Major items included are $650,000 for equipment replacement and facilities improvements at the Wastewater Treatment Plant; $490,000 for sewer replacements and other collection system improvements; $100,000 for meter change-outs; and $110,000 for vehicle replacements and safety equipment.
In addition to the wastewater budget, the BPU also adopted the 2016 District Heating and Chilling Division budget with a 4.8 percent rate decrease in the coming year.
The 2016 capital budget for district heating is an estimated $220,000.
