JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Board of Public Utilities water flow testing of hydrants in two areas from 9-10:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, may cause widespread discolored water in the BPU water territory overnight. Water is expected to settle by Friday morning.
The purpose of water flow testing of hydrants is to assure adequate water supply for fire protection.
Testing of hydrants on Fluvanna Avenue may cause discolored water in the neighborhoods of Fluvanna Avenue, Washington and North Main Streets and streets leading from those roads. Testing at Route 394 near BOCES may discolor water in neighborhoods along Route 394 (Fairmount Avenue) from BOCES and Sunrise Cove to Lakewood, West Ellicott, Celoron and Jamestown.
Customers who do not open taps tonight between 9-10:30 p.m. should not be affected by the discolored water.
