Chautauqua Lake Association Receives $50,000 in Additional Funding from State

July 9, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

During a press conference on July 5, Senator Catharine Young and Assemblyman Andy Goodell announced that they secured another $50,000 grant to help clean up Chautauqua Lake. Also in attendance were (left to right behind Senator Young and Assemblyman Goodell): Chautauqua Lake Association President Chris Yates, Chautauqua County Legislator PJ Wendel, Chautauqua County Legislator Fred Croscut, Chautauqua County Legislator Vince Horrigan, and Chautauqua Lake Association General Manager Paul Swanson. LAKEWOOD – Chautauqua Lake will see $50,000 in additional money to help with the removal of weeds. The news came late last week as state Senator Cathy Young and Assemblyman Andy Goodell announced that they were able to secure the money to help the Chautauqua Lake Association secure a third crew for its weed harvesting operation for throughout the remainder of the summer.

Goodell said the funding that was announced last week now doubles the amount of state funding that has been committed to the clean up effort. He said it was important to protect the lake, noting the amount of revenue it brings in to the county through tourism.

The funding comes a week after the Chautauqua County Legislature allocated an additional $80,000 to the CLA. The lake association must match $20,000 to receive that funding.

A third harvester could be on the water by the end of this week.
