City Council Approves Transfer Of Downtown Properties For Redevelopment To JURA

Jamestown City Council has approved transferring downtown properties to the Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency (JURA) in order to start the redevelopment process.

The properties in the approved resolution are a three-story commercial structure and adjacent vacant lot known as 8, 10, and 12 East Second Street. The parcels are located just off North Main Street adjacent to the Fenton Building.

Director of Development Crystal Surdyk said JURA has the mechanisms to put out a request for proposal (RFP) for redevelopment of the parcels. She estimates the RFP will be sent out in four to six weeks, “We want to make sure that we give people ample time do their research. We do have the intention of setting up some pre bid walk-throughs so they have an opportunity to put eyes on it, walk through it, ask us any questions that they might have, talk with our building inspector, the fire inspectors, and then be able to put in a well developed proposal.”

Surdyk said they would like to see something that complements the downtown area and the work done the last several years.
