Congress to Act on National Defense Authorization Act this Week

July 6, 2016 By WRFA Radio 1 Comment

Rep. Tom Reed (R-Corning)

Rep. Tom Reed (R-Corning)

WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning, NY 23), who returned to Washington on Tuesday following the July 4 holiday, is announcing his support for a bill which he says will help keep Americans safe and supply our troops with the resources they need here and around the world.

The House and Senate are expected to vote this week to begin work on a final compromise on the $610.5 Billion  National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill authorizes funding for the Department of Defense, which includes our armed services.

According to Reed, the bill includes a 2.1 percent pay raise for active duty military personnel, while also blocking the Obama Administration’s proposed troop reductions.

“We care about keeping the U.S. homeland, and every American, safe,” said Reed. “It’s only right that we stand with our men and women in uniform and ensure access to the resources they need to complete their missions and keep America safe. Our men and women in uniform deserve our very best.  This is a simple act that we can offer to thank them for their service and dedication to our country.”

Reed says the bill would also modernize the methods used by the Department of Defense to acquire materials and resources making it easier for the private sector to help fulfill needs – saying the move will ultimately drive down the cost of goods and services, saving taxpayer money.

Anyone read the highlights of this National Defense Authorization Act? It’s basically an over reach of Congress to run the military as it sees fit. I see no references as Rep. Tom Reed cites for increases in military troop pay, or benefits.
This Act appears to basically be a Republican build up for their planned future wars.
