SILVER CREEK – The NYSP and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident that took place Saturday morning on the New York State Thruway near Silver Creek.
According to state police, the accident took place just before 11 a.m. Saturday when a Dodge Ram pickup truck – traveling eastbound – ran into a tractor trailer that was stopped on the right should of the roadway.
According to police, 33 year-old Ashley Griffith and her 9 year old daughter were passengers in the pickup truck and died as a result of the accident. Police say the driver of the truck – whose name is not being released – and two other passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment and evaluation.
Traffic on the Thruway was closed while emergency crews responded to the scene.
Investigators are still trying to determine if weather was a factor in the crash.
The accident was one of several that took place on Saturday as a winter storm moved through the region, dumping anywhere between a few inches to as much as a foot of snow on Western New York.
