Early Thursday Morning Crash in Stockton Claims Life of Bemus Point Woman

September 26, 2019 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

STOCKTON – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says a Bemus Point woman lost her life during a car crash that took place Thursday morning, Sept. 26 in the Town of Stockton.

Deputies say they received a report just before 6 a.m. of a motor vehicle accident on Rte. 380. Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS from the Stockton Fire Department were dispatched to the scene and determined it was a single-vehicle crash. Police say 46-year-old Stacey A. Grimes was the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle. At the time of the arrival of the first responders Grimes was found to be deceased.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office, has investigated the accident and found that the Grimes vehicle was traveling north on Rte. 380 when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. At that time the vehicle went off of the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. The roadway was closed for approximately two-and-a-half hours while the scene was being investigated and is now open to traffic.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Stockton Volunteer Fire Department, Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office, Chautauqua County DPF and the Chautauqua County Fire Police.
