August 16, 2019 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

CONNEAUT, OHIO – Veteran Paul Arnone of Jamestown will be awarded France’s highest distinction for his participation in the liberation of France during the Second World War.

Arnone, 95, will join other veterans in receiving the French Legion of Honor medal, which is the highest distinction that France can bestow upon those who have achieved remarkable deeds for France.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday during the annual D-Day Conneaut event at Conneaut Township Park in Conneaut, Ohio in the presence of former recipients of the French the Legion of Honor.

The event also marks the 75th Anniversary of the Landings in Normandy and Southern France.

Arnone served as a Signalman First Class aboard LST 44 and landed on Gold Beach, Normandy France on D-Day with army equipment and supplies to support British allies. After the invasion, he also served in the Pacific to take part in the Asiatic Theater of Operations.
