Jamestown Woman Thrown from Vehicle Following Accident in Kiantone

July 22, 2015 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Chautauqua County SheriffKIANTONE – A Jamestown woman was seriously injured following a one-vehicle accident early Tuesday afternoon in the town of Kiantone.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office, 19 year old Rachel Burt was traveling north on Kiantone Rd. at about 1 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle went off the West side of the road and slid sideways for approximately 150 feet before hitting several brick light pillars. The vehicle then rolled over after hitting a raised driveway and then continued to roll backwards before hitting a wooden fence.

Investigators Burt was not wearing a safety belt and was thrown out of the back window of the vehicle, colliding with a wooden fence and then landing about 25 feet away in a hayfield.

Burt was treated at the scene by Kiantone Rescue and then flown to Hamot Medical Center in Erie by Starflight Helicopter.

Police say the homeowner was standing outside in his front yard at the time of the crash and had to run behind his house to avoid being struck by the vehicle.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation
