Local Police Warn of Especially Dangerous Heroin Following Several North County Overdoses

MAYVILLE – The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the Village of Fredonia Police Department, Dunkirk Police Department and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office are investigating several heroin related over doses that have happened in the northern Chautauqua County area, including the City of Dunkirk and the Village of Fredonia, in the past week. Of these incidents, two of them have resulted in the death of the persons involved. Due to the use of Narcan the other victims were able to be revived.

At this time it has not been determined if there are other substances, such as fentanyl, mixed with the heroin. Authorities are waiting on laboratory analysis on items recovered at the scenes of these over dose incidents to determine the contents of the mixtures involved.

Authorities are warning anyone that may be consuming heroin to not use heroin that has been obtained in the northern Chautauqua County area. Any drug of this nature, that is being purchased on the street, whether you know the person selling it to you or not, may be contaminated with substances that cause the heroin to be much more potent than they may previously used to consuming.

Authorities are asking members of the community that may have knowledge of anyone that may be involved in distributing heroin or any other narcotics trafficking related information to contact them at either 800-344-8702 or 363-0313.
