JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown City Council will wait until tomorrow night to finalize and approve the city’s 2013 operating budget. Last week the council held a special meeting to move the date of its November voting session from today to tomorrow night. The council made the decision based on the schedules of some lawmakers, who would be unable to attend if the meeting were to take place tonight.
In addition to working on the $33.45 million budget tomorrow night, the council will also act on several other items, including a resolution to borrow $1,000,000. If approved, $600,000 of the money would be used to purchase radio equipment for the Police Department, Fire Department and Department of Public Works. The purchase of the equipment is based on a federal mandate for all police and emergency departments to have updated radio equipment.
The remaining $400,000 would be used to purchase equipment for the Department of Public Works and the Parks Department – including a street sweeper, backhoe and lawn mower. All three pieces of equipment would be used.
The council will meet tomorrow night at 6 p.m. in the Mayor’s Conference Room for its work session, where it plans to finalize the 2013 spending plan. The council voting session will begin at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers. Both meetings are open to the public.
