FRENCH CREEK – Two people face charges after being involved in a police standoff with Chautauqua County Sheriff deputies that lasted nearly 10 hours in French Creek. The sheriff’s office reporting that on Sunday, deputies were sent to a home in French Creek check the well being of one of the residents – 26 year old Megan Cottrell.
It was reported to police that Cottrell was being held against her will and that there was the possibility of a weapon involved. Deputies arrived at the residence and attempted to make contact with Cottrell, however there were no responses.
Investigation continued and it was determined that Cottrell was in the home with another resident – 26 year old Gregory Johnston. Deputies attempted making contact with Johnston and Cottrell for several hours with no success.
he Chautauqua County SWAT Team and Negotiators responded to the scene. Cottrell finally exited the home at approximately 7:45 Monday morning. At approximately 9:00 a.m., contact was established with Johnston and he also surrendered without further incident.
Cottrell was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration and Johnston was arrested on Parole Violations and other warrants.
New York State Police and Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department also assisted during the incident.
