MORNING NEWS: WNY Congress Members Call on FAA to Approve New Flight Safety Rules

November 19, 2012 By WRFA Radio 2 Comments

BUFFALO – A bipartisan group of Western New York congressional representatives are announcing their frustration with what they say is a slow bureaucratic pace in effort to improve aviation safety.

In a media release sent out late last week by current Chautauqua County Congressman Brian Higgins, Higgins along with his colleagues Kathy Hochul, Louise Slaughter and Tom Reed are remaining steadfast in their united fight for new flight safety rules following the crash of Flight 3407 in 2009.

Last week the Western New York Congress members called on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to act with urgency for their request to improve flight safety rules, and maintain nothing but the strongest standards as the Administration works to advance new rules for pilot training.

Recent media reports indicate the aviation industry is aggressively lobbying the FAA to water down pilot training requirements.

Congressman Higgins said that safety and experience go hand-in-hand.  Adding that well-trained pilots are most capable of handling emergency situations and making split-second, life saving decisions.  He closed by saying the flying public and their families deserve better than the rules that are currently in place.

Here is a ‘bipartisan’ event that Rep. Reed is involved in.

Usually Rep. Reed sides with industry, and the Air Transport PACs donated more than $47,500 to his recent campaign. We’ll see what he really does here since the “aggressively lobbying the FAA to water down pilot training requirements.”
