Murray L. Bob Memorial Lecture Wednesday Night at Prendergast Library to Feature Algae Expert

November 7, 2018 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Dr. Gregory Boyer

JAMESTOWN – The Prendergast Library’s 14th annual Murray L. Bob Lecture will address an all-too relevant topic for Chautauqua County – the risks of algae. Dr. Gregory Boyer, who has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, will present on the causes of harmful algae blooms, and discuss reduction strategies.  Dr. Boyer’s lecture will be held on Nov. 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the library’s Fireplace Room.

Currently, Dr. Boyer works as the director of New York’s Great Lakes Research Consortium, and is recognized as an expert in toxins and other compounds produced by algae. He has previously worked as the director of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Lower Great Lakes project, where he helped to develop monitoring strategies for toxic blue-green algae in the lower great lakes.

The Bob lecture, which honors a longtime director of Prendergast Library and the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System, is free and open to the public. The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown; for more information, call 484-7135.
