JAMESTOWN – Jamestown police have charged a student with possession of heroin and marijuana following an investigation at Jamestown High School.

City police say the arrest took place on Thursday just after 8 a.m. when the Jamestown school resource officer was approached by a 15-year-old student who allegedly had a strong odor of marijuana. The SRO searched the student and found marijuana and three separate bags of heroin, along with an undisclosed quantity of cash. The student was charged as a juvenile through Chautauqua County Family Court.

Following the arrest, Jamestown Public School Superintendent Tim Mains released the following statement:

“This morning a student was stopped upon entry to Jamestown High School and was discovered to be in possession of both marijuana and heroin. The Jamestown Police Department was called, the student has been petitioned to Family Court and will face further disciplinary action from the  school district.  We do not tolerate the presence of dangerous contraband in our schools. We will not allow any individual to place our students in danger. I am pleased by the quick and appropriate response of our staff including our School Resource Officer (SRO) Melody Peach. We continue to ask our students, staff and wider community to alert us anytime they have knowledge or suspicion of the presence of drugs or weapons in our schools.”
