LEGISLATURE COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER LOCAL LAW ON LEGISLATURE SALARIES

A local law involving the salaries of the Chautauqua County Legislature will be the topic of discussion later today in Mayville when the legislature’s Administrative Services Committee Meets. The law, without any additional amendments, would call for members’ annual legislative salary to be $7,000 starting January 1, 2012. In two years, that would increase by more than 28-percent, reaching $9,000 on January 1, 2014.

The law would also call for the Chairman of the legislature to receive $6,000 each year he or she sits at that post. An annual payment of $750 would also go to the legislature’s majority leader and minority leader, and a salary of $375 would go to the assistant majority and minority leader. In addition, each committee chair would receive $750 each year.

Also starting January 1, 2012, no additional compensation would be paid for the position of Ranking Member of Committee.

The A Similar local law was discussed during last month’s full legislature meeting, with County Legislator Maria Kindberg of Jamestown speaking out against it and proposing an amendment that would eliminate the rates. Her amendment was voted down by party lines. The rates in the earlier law were slightly higher than those proposed in the current local law being considered later today.

Also during today’s meeting, lawmakers will also discuss occupancy tax collection and enforcement.

Today’s Administrative Services Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. in Room 331 of the Gerace Office Building.

In addition to the Adminstrative Services COmmitttee, the legislature’s Public Facilities Committee will also meet today at 4 p.m. Among the items on its agenda is a report from the airport task force.
