City’s Government Efficiency Task Force Meets Monday Afternoon

March 2, 2015 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

JAMESTOWN 5.25x5.25 logoJAMESTOWN – The Jamestown City Council will be holding several committee meetings and a full council work session Monday at city hall.

  • CITY FINANCE COMMITTEE AGENDA (7:15 p.m.)
  • CITY HOUSING COMMITTEE AGENDA (6:30 p.m.)
  • CITY PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE AGENDA (7:00 p.m.)
  • CITY PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE AGENDA (7:00 p.m.)
  • CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION – No Agenda (7:30 p.m.)

In addition to the regularly scheduled meetings, the Mayor’s Task Force on Efficiency and Cost Reduction will also meet, beginning at 5 p.m. in the mayor’s conference room.

The group last met three weeks to continue in the effort to identify cost saving measures and according to task force chair and city councilman Tony Dolce, members are expected to get an update on a couple of proposed initiatives – including one form the task force’s sub-committee on healthcare, which has identified about four different areas where the city could see a savings.

“There’s about three or four different areas that they would like to go out and get more information for, and possibly look at some other options about providing healthcare and how that would work,” Dolce told WRFA in February. “Obviously we have contracts that we have to follow with our city bargaining units, but there may be some cost savings in terms of prescriptions and some other areas, including stop-loss.”

Dolce said another area where the city could see a savings is in having a shared maintenance plan for vehicles from both the Department of Public works and Board of Public Utilities. The findings – including specific savings – are expected to be presented during Monday’s meeting.

The 12 member task force includes representatives from both city government and the Jamestown BPU. It was set up by Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi late last year to discuss various cost cutting measures for city government and the Board of Public Utilities.

Other city council committee meetings will also take place tonight, along with the full work session, which begins at 7:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public.
