JAMESTOWN – City police have concluded through an investigation that the reported shooting incident that took place in the city on March 19 was a false report.

The investigation has revealed that the alleged shooting victim, 23 year old Matthew Buck, was not shot by another suspect, but instead suffered from an intentional self-inflicted gunshot. Police add that the victim also allegedly shot himself in the shoulder while in the process of a drug transaction.

On March 19, Buck told officers he was walking near the intersection of McKinley Ave. and Prospect St. at about 5 a.m. when he was shot in the shoulder by an unknown shooter. He was able to walk back to his home where he was taken to WCA hospital by a relative and was treated for his injury. His injury was not considered to be life threatening.

Police say there are now two warrants that have been issued for Buck’s arrest. One is for Felony Making an Apparent False Sworn Statement in the 1st degree. The other is for Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 3rd Degree.

Anyone with information regarding the location of Buck is asked to contact the police department at 483-7537 or call the anonymous tip line at 483-8477 (TIPS).
