JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Police are investigating yet another shooting incident that took place in the city.

Police say the drive-by shooting took place at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Eighth St. and Prendergast Ave. During the incident, a male victim was walking down Prendergast Ave. when he was fired upon by an occupant of a blue sedan, and was shot several times.

The suspect vehicle then reportedly drove away, heading east along Eighth St.

Police say the victim – who’s name is not being released – was sent to an area hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds. It’s not yet known his condition as of this morning.

SUNDAY’S SHOOTING INCIDENT IS FIFTH IN 11 DAYS

Jamestown Police BadgeThe shooting is the fifth such incident in the past two weeks – beginning with the Thanksgiving morning homicide shooting that took place following an altercation at 129 S. Main St., resulting in the death of 26 year-old Allan Burnett, Jr. of Buffalo. Two other individuals were also struck by gunfire in that incident, but were expected to recover.

Following the Thanksgiving morning shooting, three other shooting incidents occurred over the next 48 hours – all at different locations in the city. No one was injured in those three subsequent shootings.

No arrests have been made in any of the four shootings that took place Thanksgiving weekend, nor has an arrest been made in Sunday’s shooting incident. Jamestown Police say the five shooting incidents are considered specific, targeted acts and are not random acts of violence towards the general public.

Anyone with information on the shooting, or any of the recent shooting incidents in Jamestown, is being asked to contact the JPD anonymously via the department’s Tips 411 app, or through the anonymous tip line at 483-8477 (483-TIPS). All calls and tips will be kept confidential.

CITY COUNCIL MEETS MONDAY

Jamestown Police Chief Harry Snellings updates the Jamestown City Council on the investigation into a recent rash of shootings that took place in the city, starting Thanksgiving morning.

On Nov. 28, Jamestown Police Chief Harry Snellings updated the Jamestown City Council on the investigation into a recent rash of shootings that took place in the city starting Thanksgiving morning. A fifth shooting incident took place Sunday afternoon, Dec. 4 on city’s north side.

City officials may receive more details on the latest shooting incident when they meet Monday in city hall.

The Jamestown City Council will hold a work session at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Mayor’s Conference Room, on the fourth floor of city hall. The meeting is being held to allow city officials to discuss city business and to prepare for the December voting session later this month.  In addition, the city council’s public safety committee – which includes Jamestown Police Chief Harry Snellings – will meet at 7:15 p.m. in the police training room, also located on the fourth floor of city hall.

Last Monday the Jamestown City Council held a work session that also included an update from Chief Snellings, where he offered an update on the shooting investigations and also answering questions from city officials.

Both the public safety committee meeting and the full council work session on Monday are open to the public.
