JAMESTOWN – Residents in the city of Jamestown were without power for about 90 minutes yesterday. According to a post on the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities Facebook page, power was out from approximately 5:11 p.m. Sunday, with all back in service by shortly before 7 p.m.
The post also said that the outage mainly affected customers in the south and west areas of Jamestown. The power failure occurred after a main line bringing power from our Dow Street substation to the power plant failed. The cause is not yet determined.
According to today’s the Jamestown Post-Journal, area residents told city fire crews they heard an explosion near the Washington Street bridge. Smoke was then visible at the Jamestown Furniture Exposition Building at the corner of Washington and Second streets. The building was evacuated as a precaution, but no cause of the smoke was identified.
