The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities has determined the cause of Sunday’s power outage in the city. Officials say the 90-minute BPU electric outage on the south and west sides of the City, West Ellicott and Celoron, was caused by a fault in the 35,000 volt line that brings electricity from our Dow Street Substation to the Power Plant Substation on Steele Street. A piece of equipment known as “termination” – the point at which overhead lines transition to underground cable – failed and is being replaced. Officials also say that troubleshooting continues as it relates to the root cause of the failure.
