MORNING NEWS: Dems to Announce Candidate for County Executive Next Week

April 26, 2013 By WRFA Radio 1 Comment

Chautauqua County residents should know by the middle of next week who the democratic candidate will be for County Executive. That’s according to they county’s Democratic party chairman – Norman Green – who tells WRFA that his party intends to announce its candidate for County Executive on Wednesday, May 1. Current County Executive Greg Edwards, a republican, has not said yet whether or not he’ll seek a third term as the county’s top elected official.

While the democrats will have a candidate for County Executive, Green says they won’t be putting anyone forward for to challenge the county’s top prosecutor, District Attorney David Foley. “We think Mr. Foley is doing an outstanding job and we have no problem cross-endorsing him at this point in time.”

Green also tells WRFA that his party will also be announcing a candidate for County Clerk in the near future. Currently the county clerk is Republican Sandy Sopak, although WRFA has learned she will not be seeking reelection in 2013.

WRFA has also learned from a source who wishes to remain anonymous that the two possible candidates to fill that post are current County Legislators Larry Barmore and Lori Cornell. Barmore, Gerry Republican, currently serves as the majority of leader of the legislature while Cornell serves as the legislator’s minority leader. Because of recent redistricting, both candidates share a district with other legislators from their own respective parties.
