JAMESTOWN – A familiar name in the Jamestown School District has been selected to serve as the 2103 commencement speaker during this Friday’s graduation ceremony.
Former superintendent and Jamestown native Raymond Fashano will take the podium on Friday night at Chautauqua Institution. Fashano is a member of the JHS Class of 1966 and also served as a biology teacher at Jamestown High School. Later in his career, he was named Jamestown high school superintendent, a position he held for ten years, retiring in 2008.
During Fashano’s leadership, Jamestown Public Schools experienced an educational renaissance with numerous projects and initiatives. Fashano oversaw three capital project referendums, which renovated or added on to every school building in
the district and also creating a new, permanent administration building, the JHS School-Based Health Center and the JHS Technology Academy.. He also directed the introduction and expansion of new technology in the classroom and also emphasized a greater focus on student achievement.
Following retirement, Fashano has been actively involved in the local community, serving on the boards of the Sheldon Foundation, the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation, the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation, and Downtown Jamestown Revitalization, LCC.
Jamestown High School’s Commencement Ceremony will be held this coming Friday, June 21 at 7 p.m. in the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater. Valedictorian is Zachary Eklum and Salutatorian is Annie Dyatel.
Baccalaureate will be held on Thursday, June 20 at 7 p.m. in the St Peter and Paul Church.
