MORNING NEWS: Kennedy Man, Cattaraugus Woman Face Separate Child Endangerment Charges

May 7, 2013 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Two area residents face child endangerment charges in separate incidents.

According to New York State Police, 23 year-old Chad Swan of Scott Hill Rd., Kennedy, was charged after he allegedly left an 8-month old infant in a truck for nearly two hours. The incident took place between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Sunday night. Police say the mother of the child returned home and found that Swan was asleep while the baby was still inside the truck. In addition to a charge of child endangerment, the Poland town Justice also issued a temporary order of protection against Swan, who was told to refrain from offensive and endangering conduct against the infant and mother.

On Sunday, deputies Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s office charged 21 year-old Brandi Calkins of Cattaraugus with child endangerment. The charge was leveled after her 2 year-old was found walking on Main Street in the village. Witnesses say the child was unattended for more than half an hour.  Calkins was issued an appearance ticket and is due back in Cattaraugus Court at a later date.
