As summer comes to a close and students across the county return to school, local officials are reminding drivers to use caution, watch for children and school buses, and give themselves some extra time to make their morning or afternoon commutes.
Some tips for drivers to remember as we enter the school year include:
- Obey the speed limit, especially in school zones;
- Watch for children using crosswalks or sidewalks to get to and from school;
- Be careful of children who are waiting for their buses on driveways, curbs, or sidewalks near the roadway;
- When approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing or its stop signs out, all lanes of traffic must stop including oncoming traffic.
