Public Information Meeting Set for Tuesday on Realignment, Lane Reduction on Fluvanna Ave.

October 23, 2018 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

The stretch of roadway along Fluvanna Ave. that is being proposed for a lane reduction by NYSDOT.

JAMESTOWN – The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will host a public information meeting on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., to present the proposed preventative maintenance projects on NY Route 430 (Fluvanna Street), NY Route 952P (Forest Avenue) and NY Route 954K (McDaniel/3rd Street) in the city of Jamestown.

The public information meeting will be held in the Council Chambers of the Jamestown Municipal Building (City Hall), located at 200 East 3rd Street in Jamestown.  The meeting will be an informal open house format, whereby individuals can arrive at any time from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to view displays for the proposed project.  Department of Transportation representatives will be available to receive comments and answer individual questions.

The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the pavement by milling and resurfacing the pavement with a new layer of asphalt.  The project includes Fluvanna Street from the west Jamestown City Line to Washington Street; Forest Avenue from the south Jamestown City Line to Washington Street; and McDaniel/3rd Street from NY Route 394 to Monroe Street.

The project proposes to convert Fluvanna Street from a four-lane section to a three-lane section within the project limits.  The current lane configuration of two travel lanes in each direction would be modified to accommodate one travel lane in each direction with a dedicated two-way center left turn lane.  A bicycle lane is also proposed to be added in each direction.

The striping patterns on Forest Avenue and McDaniel/3rd Street are proposed to remain the same.  All curb ramps that are not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act will be replaced on all three routes.

For further information, or to request a sign language interpreter or assistive listening system, please contact Sanjay Singh, assistant regional design engineer, at (716) 847-3230, or write to the New York State Department of Transportation, 100 Seneca Street, Buffalo, New York 14203, and reference Project identification Number 5813.51.
