Southern Airways Express to Hold Air Service Rebranding Ceremony on Tuesday

July 18, 2016 By WRFA Radio 1 Comment

Southern Air LogoJAMESTOWN – An official announcement and celebration is happening later this week regarding a new airline serving Chautauqua County.

Southern Airways Express, the new parent company of Sun Air Express, has announced the retirement of the Sun Air Express brand in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The rebranding ceremony will take place at the airport on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and will be the sixth and final ceremony in the series of Southern Airways rebranding events held across the region.

Sun Air has been a commuter airline that’s been servicing The Greater Chautauqua – Jamestown Airport Robert H. Jackson Field since November 1, 2014.

The air service currently flies four non-stop flights per day from Jamestown to Pittsburgh, where passengers can connect to over 50 destinations on 12 different air carriers. In addition to Jamestown, Sun serves the Pennsylvania communities of Altoona, Bradford, Franklin, and Lancaster, as well as Hagerstown, Maryland.

Tuesday’s event is open to the public and will feature a welcome reception, a tour of one of the new aircraft, live entertainment, and a “meet-and-greet” with Southern pilots, staff, and executives. A brief press conference announcing the new branding and the new Summer schedule will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Will the new airline transfer luggage to another airline. The other one would not and I would not fly it. Travel agents would not deal with the other one. I wonder if travel agents will deal with this one.
Southern Express is only interested in getting the multimillion dollar subsidy. The airport should just get out of the passenger business. The county has to stop paying huge sums to keep the service.
