TEEN ARRESTED IN CITY BURGLARY

JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a burglary incident early Monday morning. An unidentified 17 year-old youth was charged with two counts of burglary after an alleged home invasion took place at 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers responded to an address on McKinley Avenue in the city after a 911 caller had reported that a man had entered the apartment and physically attacked the lone person inside. The attacker then fled the scene prior to police arrival. Patrol officers located a suspect walking nearby the scene and detained the person for further investigation. According to police, it was found the youth was involved in the incident. He was taken into custody and charged. Authorities say the crime was not a random act. The teen is currently awaiting arraignment.

FREWSBURG TEEN CHARGED AFTER JEEP COLLIDES WITH HOME

FREWSBURG – Nobody was injured after a vehicle struck a house yesterday afternoon in the town of Carroll. Sheriff Deputies say 17 year-old Brandon Cantrell of Frewsburg was traveling west on Frew Run Road around 2:30 p.m. when a deer ran into the path of the 1999 Jeep he was operating. Cantrell swerved to avoid the deer, lost control of his vehicle, and struck a house located at 1199 Frew Run Road. Damage was caused to the vehicle and the foundation of the home. No injuries were reported. Cantrell was charged with unlicensed operation and failure to keep right. The owner of the vehicle – 63 year old Paul Caylor of Jamestown – was charged with permitting unlicensed operation.

BPU TO VOTE ON BUDGET LATER THIS MONTH

JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities won’t be making any significant rate increase for its customers in 2012. That’s according to a report in Today’s Jamestown Post-Journal, which says three out of the four utility budget proposals call for no rate increase, although the Water division is looking at a couple of options, including a 3.25 percent increase. If such an increase too effect, it would impact the average customer’s bill by about 42 cents each month. The other option is to postpone the new rate until after 2012, wherein the division would accept a $111,000 net loss next year.

The Electric Division budget proposal will be unveiled on Nov. 28, when the BPU board will vote on each of the four utility budgets.
