MORNING NEWS: Sheriff Deputies Assist in Rescuing Hunters Stuck in Stockton Swamp

November 20, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

STOCKTON – A Father and Son from Dunkirk escaped serious injury after getting stuck in a swamp while hunting Monday afternoon.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 55 year old Brian Meyer and 20 year old Patrick Meyer were hunting on Chautauqua Rd. in the town of Stockton. The two men lost their bearings and ended up in a swamp at the edge of Bear Lake. Deputies say they became stuck in the mud and water and called for help on a mobile phone. Rescue crews were able to eventually find the two, although the rescue was made difficult by the mud and trees in the area. Brian Meyer was transported by ambulance to Brooks Hospital for hypothermia. Patrick Meyer was treated at the scene and released.

Assisting at the scene was the Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team, Stockton Fire Department, New York state Police and Alstar ambulance.
