One Person Dead in Overnight Ellicott Fire

April 18, 2014 By WRFA Radio 2 Comments

ELLICOTT – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office says that one person is dead following a fire that took place late Thursday night on Moon Rd. in the Town of Ellicott. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

According to a media release, members of the Fluvanna Fire Department were called to a reported house fire at 3161 Moon Rd., in the Town of Ellicott at about 10:40 p.m. Thursday. During fire fighting operations, a male subject was found deceased inside the home. Coroner John Sixbey pronounced the subject dead at the scene. It is beleived that the victim died of smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.

Investigation into the fire determined that an electrical wire had been compromised in a crawl space under the kitchen of the residence. The electrical wire shorted out, causing the floor joist to ignite, and the spread to the rest of the house. No other injuries were reported. The fire and death are being ruled accidental.

Fluvanna was assisted by Bemus Point, Busti, Ellery Center, Ellington, Falconer, Frewsburg, Gerry, Kennedy, Kiantone and Sinclairville Fire Departments.
