JAMESTOWN – The city of Jamestown collected a total of $35,745 during its Parking Ticket Amnesty Program, which ran throughout the month of April.
However, Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi also says that while the amnesty program is now over, it doesn’t mean the city has finished its effort in collecting past due fines.
During Monday night’s city council meeting, the Teresi said the city will be doing everything in its power to collect the remaining $394,703 in overdue parking fines. That includes publishing the names of every individual who still owes money in the Post-Journal (via a public notice scheduled for Sunday, May 15), as well as posting the names of those who’ve had arrest warrants issued as a result of not paying their fines (the names will also be posted on on the city website, www.JamestownNY.net).
In addition, the mayor said the city will also be giving the names of those who owe overdue parking fines to a collection agency in an effort to help collect the money.
The city is facing a $2.9 million budget gap heading into 2017 and the mayor says it will do everything within its power to collect revenue – including overdue parking fines and fees which total nearly $400,000.
