May 15, 2012 By WRFA Radio 1 Comment

WEST ELLICOTT – A high-speed chase involving the police, which culminated in a motorcycle crashing early Sunday morning in the town of Ellicott, has claimed the life of a Stow man.

According the town of Ellicott Police Department, 27 year-old Jonathan Lutgen of Stowe was involved an accident that took place near Hunt Road and Southwestern Drive. Officers say Lutgen was allegedly traveling 84 miles an hour on Fairmount Avenue at 3:40 a.m. Sunday. Police say Lutgen refused to pull over for officers, instead makng a turn at Southwestern Dr. and continuing south toward Hunt Rd. Officers say when the motorcyle reached the intersection with Hunt Rd., it was traveling near 100 mph. When the bike reached the intersection, officers reported seeing sparks and a cloud of dust, with the motorcycle landing in a ditch on the east side of the road.

Emergency crews responded to the scene along with a county coroner and an accident reconstruction team. Lutgen was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled to take place Monday at the Erie County Medical Center.
